KittiB has made her solo comeback with woman power anthem, “Doin’ Good” featuring Verbal Jint. While I really like the song and it’s message, KittiB made a few missteps that weakened the whole package. First the actress in the video looks a whole lot like Ga In of Brown Eyed Girls, in fact, I thought it was her until there was a close up.
Not a big deal, except for the fact that she is dressed similarly to Ga In and acting out essentially the same narrative of Ga In’s “Fxxk U“ music video. So from the start, I was distracted by the similarities. Second, like I said, it’s pretty safe to say this some was one of female empowerment, and yet Verbal Jint was the featured artists.
He is a perfectly capable rapper, but the video and song would have sent an even stronger, and more emotional message if she had featured another woman rapper. And lastly, was her use of English in the song.
The lines that she did say in English were awkward and broke the flow of her rap, which is not unusual, but it still worked together with the other details she missed to hurt what is a damn near perfect song.
